Happiness however, like any mood, comes and goes with our thoughts...just like clouds passing in the sky! I have learnt that we need to face each of our emotions as we feel them. We need to be with those emotions, even the negative ones, including when we feel anxious, stressed, angry or depressed.
Once we begin to be with those emotions and sit with them (such as sitting with our anxiety or our anxious thoughts) only then can we learn about ourselves and realise that these feelings are not as frightening to be with, as we first believed they are.
This is what I have discovered through Mindfulness practice and meditation.
A good place to start: I would recommend this book as it also has a guided meditations CD.
I love the explanation in this book about mindfulness practice. It says,
' Meditation is not about accepting the unacceptable. it is about seeing the world with greater clarity so that you can take wiser and more considered action to change those things which need to be changed. Meditation helps cultivate a deep and compassionate awareness that allows you to assess your goals and find the optimum path towards realising your deepest values.'
I have met wonderful people on this new journey so far and I hope that I can not only share what I have learnt with you, but also perhaps make links and share knowledge with some of you out there in the same search for happiness. :)
Many beliefs in Buddhism link beautifully of course, but Yoga practice has also been a great way to enhance mindfulness and meditation practice through movement.
Another recomendation, is an amazing place in London called The London Art Therapy Centre in Archway. I attended an Art and Mindfulness course there and that defined the start to my learning journey:
Please let me know of any of your own inspirations, which you recommend.....
Until next time!
